Cantor Laura Stein

Cantor Laura Stein, LCSW is a Ph.D. student in Practical Theology at Boston University and a research assistant at the Danielsen Institute. Her doctoral research is in the psychology of religion, with inquiry into the spiritual formation and virtue development of Jewish clergy-in-training (i.e., rabbinical and cantorial seminary students). Laura received her master’s of sacred music, and ordination as a Reform Cantor, from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2018. She also holds a Master of Social Work from New York University. Laura is passionate about exploring the role of Jewish virtues in clergy’s everyday social 

behavior, aligning DEI & justice beliefs with lived experience, and ways of turning religious trauma into healing and thriving.
